Byte sized bits – a new series[1] - chapter 1
The letter ‘T’
But first, what’s the writing style all about?
I write like I would speak.
Not just the written word.
The spoken word written.
Grammar, even spelling, might suffer.
Sometimes cryptic.
Even abstract – at times.
Philosophical. Experimental when I feel like it. Autobiographical.
But there is meaning there. Sometimes deep. Sometimes shallow.
Sometimes lost. Aren’t we all sometimes?
But stick with it. Provoking thought, even if the meaning is illusive at first, is part of the point! Cheap thrills are cheap indeed – and no real thrill at all.
I call it ‘scribing.
Short for ‘transcribing’ – defined as “to put (thoughts, speech, or data) into written or printed form.” Something common to the Courtroom too – also a place of adventure for me.
[1] In the past, the phrase was ‘bite sized’. But embracing the modern digital world (and attempting to do so positively…) I thought ‘byte sized’ bits was a fun variation – and who doesn’t love a pun?! Also, historically, a byte was the smallest unit of computer memory. And it in turn was made up of 8 bits. So, a ‘byte sized bit’ is a very modern digital phrase indeed – representing brevity (also the modern way…) and a new series of shorter chapters! Thought pieces mostly. Probably too weird for some.
Now, on with the ‘scribing…
Byte sized bits – a new series - chapter 1
The letter ‘T’
I’ve been thinking about the letter ‘T’ lately. Big brother upper case ‘T’. And little brother lower case ‘t’. It seems to me it is a powerful letter. Let me explain. You get from ‘here’. To ‘there’. With the letter ‘t’. Quite an outcome. From a single letter. One letter. Taking you from origin. To destination. From now. To later. From the present. To the future. And here’s the thing. Sometimes you get there with big brother ‘T’. And sometimes, little brother ‘t’. But either way. You get from here to there And Here to There. With the same letter. One letter, that changes everything. What I like about the letter is that this family of two brothers represent the reality of life. And the pathway we must take. To get from here to there. You travel along life’s journey. The living highway. Superstars. In supercars. From the present to the future. But the road is not straight. There are intersections along the way. Sometimes a t intersection. With options. You may continue straight. Or turn left. Or right. To get from here to there. But sometimes you hit a T intersection. A T junction. Continuing on your current pathway is a dead end. Worse. You will crash. It is, after all, a “dead” end. You must change your path. And change it significantly. You must turn left or right. The future is still available. But to reach it. To get from Here to There. You must change direction. Life is not a straight line. It is not lived in one direction. There will be twists and turns along the way. Sometimes you reach a point. A hard point. Where you must choose. Left, or right? It is worth thinking about the next intersection reached in life. Are you going from here to there? Where straight ahead is still available? Or should you be going from Here to There? And before you crash. Turn left. Or turn right. Because going straight ahead is no longer an option. The letter ‘T’. Making us choose. Choose our direction. To get from here. To there. And Here. To There.
The letter T - more than a road sign - letting us choose so much more….
